Lois Pope and the “Be Humane” Conversation Series

November 7, 2013

Outside of her charitable giving, which benefits causes ranging from housing for disabled veterans to furthering the arts, Lois Pope has led numerous philanthropic projects of her own. Her efforts to date have included founding a neurological research facility and constructing a memorial in honor of disabled veterans.

Recently, Ms. Pope partnered with the American Humane Association (AHA) to present a succession of conversations about how people and animals interact. The “Be Humane” Luncheon Series launched on January 16, 2013, with a talk featuring a U.S. military sergeant and an award-winning retired military dog. It continued the next month with a high tea served with television star and AHA National Ambassador Victoria Stilwell.

The series of talks’ first season reached a successful conclusion on April 11, when the AHA’s national director for animal-assisted therapy spoke about the research being done regarding canines and childhood cancer. The series will be brought back for a second season thanks to Lois Pope and The Lois Pope LIFE Foundation, Inc.
