Dance Gala Raises Funds for Veterans and Medical Students

November 13, 2013

Philanthropist Lois Pope has generously supported numerous worthy causes through her charitable foundations. From her base in South Florida, she has provided scholarship funding and humanitarian aid. Her financial assistance has also helped injured and abused animals, as well as programs that assist military veterans, women, and children in need.

In March 2013, Lois Pope attended the Evening of Vision gala dance party sponsored by the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. She and her dance partner, Dr. Robert Mackler, won the crowns as the queen and king of the evening’s twist competition and raised funds to provide assistance for disabled veterans and scholarships for students entering the medical profession.

Through the Disabled Veterans’ LIFE Memorial Foundation, Mrs. Pope is raising funds to construct a memorial to acknowledge the service that disabled military personnel have given to their country. She established the organization in collaboration with the late United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jesse Brown and the national adjutant for the Disabled American Veterans, Arthur H. Wilson. Her gifts to medical students include funding the Unsung Heroes scholarship program for incoming students at New York’s Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education.
