Lois Pope and the Palm Beach Symphony

December 16, 2013

Outside of her gifts to humanitarian causes, which have won recognition from a U.S. President and numerous societies, Lois Pope is a patron of the arts. She presently serves on the boards of the Armory Arts Center and the Palm Beach Opera.

Lois Pope has also given generously to the Palm Beach Symphony. In April of 2013, she contributed $100,000 to the organization. The gift will be used to support the Symphony’s International Maestro Chair, helping it attract internationally known guest conductors. The Symphony and its conductors have a history of receiving excellent reviews. Its 2012-2013 season, which ended shortly after Ms. Pope gave her gift, earned glowing coverage in local publications.

On the occasion of the gift, presented at a star-studded event held in late March, Ms. Pope praised the Symphony highly. She reserved special approbation for performers Lola Astanova and Thiago Arancam, who appeared at the benefit concert. Ms. Astanova played “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin, and the rest of the performance’s program featured pieces by Rachmaninoff, Leoncavallo, Puccini, and others.
